Camino de Santiago - Coastal Way - Porto

Discover the Camino de Santiago by bicycle, along the Portuguese Coastal Way starting from Porto!

We invite you to do with us one of the routes currently most used by pilgrims due to its natural beauty since a large part of its length runs along the Portuguese and Spanish coasts.

The pilgrimages to Santiago date back to the 9th century, when the tomb of the Apostle Santiago the Greater was discovered. Since then, people from all over the world have ventured into various and different ways, taking risks and deprivations to visit and venerate Santiago.

This adventure begins in Sé do Porto and has as last stop in Portugal the beautiful village of Caminha, where we will cross the river Minho by boat to get into Spain. Then, we continue along the Spanish coast from A Guarda to Redondela, where we will take the Portuguese Central Way to Santiago de Compostela.

Our priorities are your satisfaction, comfort, and safety so you will make the tour on mountain bikes with and without total suspension, of the latest models from reputed brands.

Day 1: Oporto – Esposende (67km / 41 miles)

After we enjoy the Oporto city view, we leave the Praça da Sé by the picturesque alleys until we arrive at Praça da Ribeira. Here we find the Douro river which will guide us to the river mouth. Always by the sea, we pass through the fishing spots of Matosinhos, Póvoa de Varzim, and Esposende, where we will spend the night after we enjoy a good fishmeal at the diner.

Day 2: Esposende – Baiona (88km / 54 miles)

As we leave the village, we also leave a bit the seaside and the path becomes different with landscapes composed by woods and fields. Soon we cross the famous Eiffel Bridge and we arrive at Viana do Castelo, where we meet seaside again and reach a bicycle path that will get us to the beautiful village of Caminha. Separating us from Spain is the Minho river, that we will cross by ferryboat to arrive at A Guarda. Only remains about 30 km (19 miles) to finish today´s stage, always by the seaside, until Baiona a well-known fishing and touristic city where we will sleep today. By night we will taste for the first time on our trip to the Galician delicacies.

Day 3: Baiona – Caldas de Reys (92km / 57 miles)

We continue our journey along the coast until Vigo, the main Spanish fishing port and one of the largest in the world. We will cross the city next to its important estuary where the famous mussels are created as well as other mollusks and shellfish. Following the estuary, we will arrive at Redondela. From now we will use the Central Portuguese Route that takes us to Pontevedra, the capital of the province of Galicia. We cross the city through its historical streets towards Caldas de Reys, known by its thermal baths that as the village date back to Roman times.

Day 4: Caldas de Reys – Santiago de Compostela (43 km)

Santiago is getting closer. We now take the direction of Padrón, known for its famous peppers, fairs, and festivals. We are now in the final stage, just a few miles separate us from the Praça do Obradoiro, where we will pose for the always exciting and inevitable final photo with the cathedral in the background.

Ok, everything end´s, but we still have time for a deserved bath in the hotel followed by a goodbye lunch. The rest of the day? Well that is up to you, finally you will get rid of us and you can enjoy the rest of the day knowing better the historic city of Santiago.
